Being Disconnected is Not an Option
Okay, so those that know me have already figured out I have an addictive personality and I tend to take things a bit too far, though arguably that’s not a bad thing! Connectivity is certainly one of my issues. I couldn’t imagine being without being part of the collective for any length of time and I know I’m not being presumptious it believing that I’m not the only one.
Originally as I saw the mobile web finally evolve to usable speeds I quickly jumped on the dot-mobi caravan and established PaulMonaco.mobi which was to target mobile users. One of the prerequisites to obtaining a dot-mobi TLD (Top Level Domain) was to be as browser independant as possible and elegantly present content to those with slower (mobile) connections and small screens.
As time went on and I started formulating this “The World is My Network” concept, I realized that the lines are further blurring. People don’t want their content filtered and segregated into mobile and non-mobile bits. As humans we want it all! We don’t want anything condensed but rather we want a quick summary and the option to easily get full content.
Now in the old days… you know, the mid 90′s. The whole idea behind HTML was to achieve unerversal content distribution across all platforms. But to blame it on Darwin… Humans evolved into a beast that wants it all. Not only do we want all the data we can we want it to look pretty too! So designers bullied the developers and quickly found a way to make plain old web pages bright and snazzy like glossy fashion magazines. This of course pretty much choked mobile deliver.
Enter the developers again to save the day… Now we can use technolgy (and a slight invasion of privacy) to figure out just what you’re using to surf the webs so the best possible presentation of content can be made on your device. With that in mind, I’m beginning to use this technology on all my sites. If you maintain any type of website, I urge you to consider doing so as well. Readers are precious, we need to keep the ones we have and avoid roadblocks that will deter future subscribers.
