Twitter is still having is troubles, even though they did some pre-holiday maintenance I personally experienced issues the following morning. Beginning to wonder if these upgrades are to their brick and mortar structure and not their IT infrastructure? They are trying to bring in some new talent, please apply if you qualify!

The clones emerge… identi.ca – all the net rockstars and popular kids are talking about it. It works just like twitter, when it’s broke. Okay in all fairness it’s brand new and still under development, fair enough. Most significant aspects that caught my eye is the open source platform, Laconica and the Creative Commons attribution to posts. (as I write this entry Laconi.ca website was giving me a 404, hmmm)

Back to twitter.. when twitter fails so do other (otherwise) fine applications. I take look at Twellow.com – A directory of people on Twitter searchable by name and or category. Still in its alpha stages but extremely useful in it’s current state with tons of features to look forward to.

I’m wondering if Twitter realizes that it’s these 3^rd party applications that are keeping it afloat. Should all these other sites conform to these other open source twitter-like applications then there will be no compelling reason for users to stay with them.

Oh and yes, I know.. I’m a late adopter here. I’ve finally joined the Friendfeed gene pool and am pumping content thru there. Ironically, here’s a site that perhaps is benefitting from Twitters problems. I signed up in an effort to keep track of some of my contacts while twitter is down and as a bonus have discovered that friendfeed can truly be a wonderful place. Care need to be taken to avoid overload but I’m finding it very useful!

I end the show talking about etiquette. In a nutshell.. remember.. the WORLD is YOUR NETWORK!! Don’t do anything online that your wouldn’t do in your carbon-based existence! Do unto Ether as your would do unto Carbon! LOL

The is our initial sound check show to get our feet (and other parts) wet.

So what’s this all about? What else.. social media.. isn’t that what all the cool kids are talking about? Ahh.. but who are those cool kids and do they really know what the hell their talking about? Of course not! None of us do.. ahh.. but you’ll learn how you can plug that T-1 line right into your listeners brain with this show!

Monetization? Marketing? Ahh.. just go talk to your neighbors! That’s what being social is all about!

So how often am I going to do this? Well, as far as potential advertisers are concerned we’re (we?) are going to commit simply to one show per month but the reality is I’m going to do a show when I’m ready and the show will last until I’m done. For the most part I’ll keep the show to around 45-minutes, certainly less than 72 minutes.. really want to keep it fitting on a single audio CD.

Expect sound quality to fluctuate over time, this won’t be strictly a studio show. I will surely be adding many field reports from the road, most likely via Utterz.com.

So is this a music podcast? Well no.. but independent music is certainly a part of social networking, well at least being social.. ahh.. but isn’t networking a part of being social? Yes! Now you’re getting!

What’s the deal with Podshow changing names anyhow? Nope.. don’t like it. Do they care that I don’t? Doubt it! LOL

If you’re still not grasping the connection between music and social media you might want to catch up on the SXSW thing.

Since I’ve got the attention of a few of your artist types.. I have one word for you TAGGING! Yes, tag your tracks! Fill out those ID3 fields and if your promotions / marketing guru is so stoned and arrogant that they’re putting you “online” but not doing it properly, throw em out! Get someone who knows what they’re doing! (Pssst.. it’s for your own good!)
